Stone Soup is an old folk tale about a hungry traveller who boils a stone in a pot of water to create stone soup. Curious onlookers come by and are persuaded to donate ingredients in exchange for a taste of the mysterious stone soup. After all the ingredients have been added to the pot the bland stone soup has become a hearty and delicious soup that the whole community gets to share. It’s a story about how everyone benefits when neighbours come together.
This past weekend at Withrow Park, everyone was invited to donate a vegetable for the “stone soup”. With the help of a chef from Cafe Fiorentina the vegetables were combined into a delicious soup cooked over an open fire. The extra vegetables that weren’t needed for the soup were donated to the food bank. The story of Stone Soup was read before the soup was ready.
